Fine Art Graduate from Birmingham City University, Lauren Cookson will be joining us on 7th June to talk about her new project, theartistinbetween.
After being granted £10,000 from Deutsche Bank she set up an on-line exhibition space which looks at culture within cities, first stop Birmingham. In a recent interview with Lauren she spoke about her new project and announced she’ll be launching her website at this year’s Birmingham Made Me Design Expo.
What is theartistinbetween?
The artistinbetween is a virtual exhibition space that reviews culture in cities.
First destination: Birmingham.
We cover your city-creatively.
The online site presents the latest trends over a varied range of artistic avenues.
What we ultimately aim to do is to offer the art of looking at things differently.
But don’t expect the expected.
The site is visual led supported by text.
The site educates: literature to location, art, architecture to fashion.
We are not streamlined.
The site informs: what exhibitions to see, where to grab the best skinny caramel latte.
The site is a diverse and cultural taster of what lies between the in and between.
Why The Name?
As an artist and curator, I have always been interested in physical and virtual spaces. What lies between the two and what gets lost and gained in this process of translation.
I am physically exploring the city as a curator, selecting and mapping my likes and interests to translate to a wider audience virtually.
If we were a definition we would be…
Flaneur is defined as “A person who walks the city in order to experience it.”
